Martita's Soup Kitchen and Shelter
Peace:
To Whom It May Concern,
I would like to share with you about a Family (I was very humbled by their continuous acts of charity), they feed the poor every day, even if they only have bread. During November 2003, the family organized, (they were able to come up with the money for the expenses based on their faith that God would provide), lunch for the poor and they fed over 150 people in one day, this is by a family who is not rich, but committed to helping the poor and at the same time they send 12 to 15 young people to school to be educated, so that their way of life can be improved and they can help to improved lives around them.
Donations are generally received from the generosity of private individuals who stay or have stayed at Martita & Oscar's Bed & Breakfast. During their visit their guests have observed Martita's good works and from this often commit to provide donations to help her feed, clothe and educate the impoverished in Antigua, Guatemala and surrounding communities.
Donations take the form of either providing monthly stipends or sending clothing or toys to the people of Antigua. The money Martita receives is used to replenish the food supply of rice, beans and other food staples that is provided to individual families each month, pay for schooling of orphaned children and to replenish supplies used for the soup kitchen she operates out of her home. From her soup kitchen, Martita serves 2 to 3 meals a day to the poor.
The family is currently working with the Mayor of Antigua, Guatemala to develop a permanent Soup Kitchen and Shelter facility for the homeless. Until this is finalized they will continue to do charity work from their home in Antigua.
Thank you in advance for your generous support.
Sincerely yours,
Jane O-W
